Introduction[]
Health: 10001 (Originally 12300)
Play-style: Well-rounded, Footsies
Dash type: Run
Specialty: Insulator
The attacks from his sword deal a lot more chip damage on block than his other special moves. Being in Vorpal state allows the chip damage inflicted to be stronger while also allowing him to charge up his Force Function faster.
Hyde is your basic run-of-the-mill shōtōclone character. Having well-rounded normals and a balanced set of projectile, anti-air and expansion set specials, Hyde is a solid character for any situation. Hyde is also the only character who can inflict chip damage with his normals (albeit more than his special moves), a trait only shared by other fighting games' specific universal mechanics and usually only limited to special moves and beyond.
However, many of his special moves unlike most basic ones have notable combo utility, given the 2 followups to Black Orbiter, confirms off of his dashing C and his more infamous Vacant Shift input delays that lead into guaranteed OTG conversions if mastered. Even then, his chip damage from his Insulator's normals in tandem with special moves in general give him a form of blockstring pressure that still must be paid mind to.
However, despite his decent kit, Hyde has a lack of immediate high-low mixups outside of Assault to supplement his variety of quick lows, as his only standing overhead is his fully charged Force Function; the ability to only chain/cancel from it with a Chain Shift hampers it even more along with its somewhat slow startup. The chip damage from his blockstrings however is the only thing that can make up for Hyde's inability to open up most intelligent defenses. That, and his need to rely on most fundamentals and the need to outplay other characters is what also prevents him from being better than he already is.
Another big weakness of Hyde's are that despite his well-rounded set of normals and specials, many of his attacks can be quite unsafe on either whiff or block, depending on how costly their usage is. Whiffing attacks with Hyde in particular can be very dangerous, which is also added in with the risks involved with most of his frame traps (as 2A is his only best option for stagger/frame trap pressure) as well as the specific angles his best coverage moves can't strike at. Also at 10001 HP as of Exe: Late[st], Hyde along with Wagner has the second-lowest amount of HP in the game, which mitigates his shōtōclone status as he also cannot afford to make too many haphazard mistakes lest he suffers too much damage that can cost a round.

Trivia[]
- Hyde's moves are in a popular alternate character reading, where the kanji used have rather different English readings from their actual translations. The kanji's actual translations as seen below:
- [Strict Daze] Vestige of Cruelty (峭刻ノ残滓, Shōkoku no Zansai)
- [Blaring Outrage/Blare Out Edge] Cadence/Rumbling of Extinction (断絶ノ鳴動, Danzetsu no Meidō)
- [Black Orbiter] Torus' Misfortune Vortex (円環ノ凶渦, Enkan no Maga'uzu)
- This exact move with its kanji name in fact, has become one of Kuon's attacks of the opposite input.
- [Dark Lotus] Black Lotus Blooming in the Abyss (深淵ニ咲ク黒蓮, Shin'en ni Saku Kokuren)
- [Dark Lotus Anthesis] Black Lotus Crazily Blooming in the Abyss (深淵ニ狂咲ク黒蓮, Shin'en ni Kyōsaku Kokuren)
- [Bend Sinister] Distorted Aperture (歪曲サレシ空隙, Waikyokusareshi Kūgeki)
- [Red-Clad Craver] Wing of Crimson-Clad Darkness (紅纏イシ闇ノ翼, Kō Matoishi Yami no Tsubasa)
- [Vacant Shift] Fault Dividing the Empty Air (虚空ヲ分ツ断層, Kokū wo Wakatsu Dansō)
- [First] One Layer (壱層, Issō)
- [Second] Two Layer (弐層, Nisō)
- [Third] Three Layer (参層, Sansō)
- [Shadow Scare] Earth-Drilling Shadow (地ヲ穿ツ影, Chi wo Ugatsu Kage)
- Kuon curiously enough, has a technique of the same theming (a "drilling shadow" attack) that has its subject be different (the "empty air" instead of the "earth").
- [Veil/Pale Bringer] Wedge of Calamity Calling Sick Crimson (禍招セシ猩紅ノ楔, Wazawai Shōseshi Shōkō no Kusabi)
- [Gyre Vortex] Cage of Alluring to the Demise Spiral (終焉ヘ誘ウ螺旋ノ檻, Shū'en e Sasō Rasen no Ori)
- [Raging Roar] Heaven & Earth Shredding Savage God's Roaring Howl (天地斬リ裂ク荒神ノ咆哮, Tenchi Kirisaku Aragami no Hōkō)
- [Vacant Shift - Sediment] Fault Dividing the Empty Air - Multi-Gulf Layer (虚空ヲ分ツ断層 - 多重隔層, Kokū wo Wakatsu Dansō - Tajū Kaku Sō; an EX Vacant Shift, named in Cross Tag Battle)
- [Veil/Pale Bringer Arose] Awakening Wedge of Calamity Calling Sick Crimson (覚醒禍招セシ猩紅ノ楔, Kakusei Wazawai Shōseshi Shōkō no Kusabi; Cross Tag Battle only)
- Interestingly enough, Hyde's battle quotes for Vacant Shift literally reference the original kanji-based reading via the mentioning of the layers per input ("Issō, nisō, sansō!"), which is something that does not normally apply to the other similar kanji-based alternate character readings. Meanwhile, in Cross Tag Battle, he does the same for Veil Bringer Arose (yelling out "SHŌKŌ NO KUSABI!"). Unused voice lines for Black Orbiter and Raging Roar also confirm their alternate readings.
- Another unique aspect of these kanji is that all the grammatical particles are rendered in katakana instead of hiragana, shared with Kuon's techniques as a follow prior user of the Insulator and other similar weapons/darkness on him.
