UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH[]

Prologue[]

Enkidu: Hm… I'm awake, it seems… I had thought to sleep through the calamities of the Night and spare myself the entertainment…

(Much can be said about the skills of those who come into this festive Night. No doubt powerful opponents will come forth, but so will weaklings, who only gather out of curiosity…)

(The power of manifestation… It is intriguing, but even those who wield that power are weak. In all honesty, I'm getting bored…)

(In my search for powerful opponents, I came across the rumor of a group making a name for themselves in battle… Amnesia… Even after I approached them for an alliance, I've met no one of significance so far.)

(Perhaps it would be better to write them off, and fight against the elite instead. It could be fun… Especially the man of "Greed," who seems promising. I will definitely be the one to send him into oblivion.)

(Was the woman called… Para-something…? Unfortunately for her, she is swayed too easily by power. She still has a long way to go in her training.)

(I suppose I should see how things unfold for just a little while longer. Battling with them will be the grand finale.)

I have no choice… I was tasked with protecting the Altar. Perhaps I should take a stroll on this moonlit night.

The smell of warfare. It must be on the command of fate that I have awoken now. My hope for this Night is to meet a powerful adversary upon whom I can unleash my all.

Stage 3[]

(Enkidu is suddenly attacked by an unknown assailant)

Enkidu: Oh-ho… How impressive that you could remove all signs of your existence and succeed in ambushing me. That was brilliant. The fact I didn't notice you until now tells me you're very skilled. Why don't you tell me your name, kid?

Seth: "Assassin"… That should be plenty for you…

Enkidu: Ah… So you're the Assassin of the Night Blade, are you? Sorry, but the only battle I seek now is with the Hecatoncheir. You are, frankly, not enough for my appetite.

Seth: Oh, that thing… The monster who's laid waste to thousands in unimaginable carnage. I'm a baby bird compared to him, no doubt. He's indisputably more powerful.

Why don't I test you out to see if you're even worthy of fighting that thing? If you really want that battle to the death, you'll have to shatter my double-edged sword first.

Enkidu: Following a failed surprised attack, I would have expected you to take flight. You seem to be a promising lad. If you insist on testing me, very well. I'll take your corpse as an offering to that giant.

Seth: I am the Vessel of a warrior. See for yourself if you can bear my strength long enough to consume what you hunger for…

Enkidu: Well, kid. I can't say the same for myself. If you'll be relying only on the powers of manifestation, your weakness has already been made apparent.

Seth: What…? Are you suggesting that you're walking under this Night with nothing more than physical training…? That is interesting.

Enkidu: I'm sure it is. Definitely has made things more entertaining for me. To have so many powerful enemies only enhances the art of war.

Stage 6[]

Byakuya: Hey, Sis. Seems like our next target is waiting for us. What's your command?

Tsukuyomi: "Throwing away life"… I can't get a hold of this person at all. You should be careful, Byakuya.

Byakuya: All right, all right. But you're going to just make me throw it away? Outrageous as usual. Geez.

(Enkidu approaches the siblings)

Enkidu: You two are interesting… You seemed to be children, so I intended to move on peacefully.

Hm… I sense something. You used to be affiliated with Bankikai. Sef, was it? I wondered what became of your vessel after the attack… Well, it seems I no longer need to ask.

Tsukuyomi: My… you're absolutely correct. I am happy you remembered me. You are more sensitive than you appear, Enkidu.

I am surprised a person of your prestige is affiliated with Amnesia. So much happened on that Night. There is no way I would forget.

Byakuya: Oh, what's this? You two have some kind of secret past?

Tsukuyomi: "Gag me"… Byakuya, you stay out of this.

Byakuya: Fine, got it.

Enkidu: So, for what purpose do you return to the Night with your vessel? Are you here to avenge the fallen King of Demon Wail?

Tsukuyomi: While that would be fitting, I'm afraid not. I am simply in search of someone who may appear during this Night. That is why I have no plans of getting in your way. Now then, would you let us be?

Enkidu: I will not.

Tsukuyomi: You will not…

Byakuya: Nope.

Enkidu: You are an interesting girl… The other one may be even more interesting. You didn't seem worth fighting at first, and I am sure your manifestation isn't that strong. But you appear to be sharpening your claws and preparing for its ultimate potential.

I had been feeling rather bored tonight. This may sound rather childish, but perhaps we could play. Or do you have a problem with that?

Tsukuyomi: Not at all. It will be a learning opportunity.

Byakuya: Hmm… I'm going to cast my vote against… This guy's powers don't look so appetizing.

Tsukuyomi: I am not asking your opinion. Hurry up and take care of him.

Byakuya: Yes, ma'am. On my way… Bossy as usual, but I guess that's what I like about you.

Stage 9[]

Enkidu: Hmph…

Orie: You must be Enkidu from Amnesia. What are you plotting on this Night? Answer me.

Enkidu: I have no obligation to answer you.

Orie: I am Orie Valadier… Fifth Executor of the Licht Kreis. If your purpose here is to support Paradox in seizing the power of the Abyss, I must defeat you where you stand.

Enkidu: You're a Licht member? You may be young, but you have a strong sense of resolve in your eyes. What a shame. You are not at a level to be facing me. It's rather unfortunate to have to pass on this opportunity. Now go.

Orie: I won't flee simply because you order me to. You can see for yourself whether or not I'm at the level to fight you.

Enkidu: No… Let me stress this to you. You are not worthy. The determination you display… It is born of a deep connection to hatred. Am I wrong?

Orie: …!

Enkidu: I wonder whose blood, whose head, whose life you are planning to steal? I would love to see what lurks in the depths of those polluted eyes, the secrets you hide behind your coat of armor.

Orie: I cannot defend myself… You are correct. I am living my life the only way I am capable of. However, I cannot back down. I am a member of the Licht Kreis. My duty is to stop your reckless violence!

Enkidu: It appears your soul has already been enticed by evil. Very well.

It is a shame to kill you. In my "violence," I hope you will find enlightenment. In which direction will your spirit wander after this battle? The way you have lived your life will determine that.

Final Stage[]

(loud crash)

Waldstein: Hmph… What is this narrow entrance? This is the Altar? So cheaply constructed… No one could possibly enter here. No matter how many hundreds of years have passed, the housing conditions in this place have yet to improve…

(Enkidu enters)

Enkidu: I'm rather surprised to finally see the guest of honor arrive. I had almost given up on this boring job. Sometimes, a break from the monotony to have some fun can make things worthwhile.

Waldstein: Interesting… Enkidu, huh? Never expected to find you here. I suppose the souls of warriors are drawn to one another in search of the next epic battle.

Hilda: (interrupting) What on earth kind of conversation are you two having?

Enkidu: Para… dox. What are you doing, walking around with the enemy?

Hilda: Hmm? Oh, I was getting bored fighting the weaklings, and just about to return home when I happened upon this fine creature hulking about. I thought it would be crass to move straight into battle, so I brought him back to the Altar.

I mean the Hecatoncheir, the leviathan of the Night Blade, has come to pay us a visit. It would be rude to send him home so soon. So I will personally do the honors of finishing him as cruelly as I can in this extraordinary place…

Enkidu: Paradox… Step down. Or did you forget your promise that you would let me fight the powerful ones first? That was our deal. I cannot let you take my prey.

Hilda: Aww. That's rather harsh, given that I was the one who found him. You do remember that I am your boss, don't you? Why not be a good boy and follow orders?

Although, I suppose it would be wrong of me to say that, after you spent all night dutifully house-sitting for me. You might have suspected already, but I did bring him back here for you. You'd better make sure he doesn't defeat you and take over the Abyss.

(Hilda takes her leave)

Enkidu: …Thank you for your exceptional foolishness.

Waldstein: Hmph. Your little routine does not amuse me. Are you two finished?

I had wanted by all means to have a death match with the rumored Beast of Amnesia. This will be the finale of the night. I am happy to have been given the opportunity to cross fists with you.

Enkidu: Likewise. There is nothing holding us back now. Let us battle to our hearts' content.

Waldstein: I could not have asked for anything else.

Enkidu: For our battle, we need neither words nor time. This will be over in one explosive instant. This will determine everything!

Epilogue[]

Waldstein: *Grunt*… So, it ends here... I have no more power remaining to stand.

Enkidu: You were impressive, Hecatoncheir. I respect your lengthy service in this field. Yet, I am a little unsatisfied. For a man of your nature, your fists were dull. I sensed hesitation.

Waldstein: Hesitation…? Hmph. The siblings of eternity are the only thing remaining in my life. Perhaps the regret of not being able to see how things ended for them had dulled my resolve. However, I have no regrets in my soul as a warrior. Go ahead and kill me.

Enkidu: Eternity…

Waldstein: You… Why are you not finishing me off… Do you wish to prolong my disgrace?

Enkidu: There is nothing for you to be ashamed of in continuing to live. You showed me the magnificent pride of a warrior. It would be a shame to kill you. Let's meet once again under this Night.

Waldstein: Are you sure of that…? If you let me live today, it will be catastrophic for all of you eventually…

Enkidu: That is fine with me. I never had any obligation towards Amnesia or that woman. I simply wanted an opportunity to encounter formidable opponents. That was my only reason for our alliance.

If you were not worth fighting, I would have killed you right then and there without any hesitation. It's that simple.

Waldstein: *Grunt*… I never expected to owe my life to anyone after hundreds of years. I vow… to repay you someday.

Enkidu: That is my hope as well, and the best form of showing your appreciation to a warrior.

-----[]

Enkidu: The Night has come to its end, as has my mission. The Hecatoncheir. He was a glorious opponent who lived up to his reputation.

So, the siblings of eternity… They are, without a doubt, Kuon and Linne of the Night Blade.

Kuon has been said to be the ultimate manifestation. I am sure that giant would be able to lead me to them. Encountering such a powerful adversary would then lead me to meet far more of their kind… How wonderful.

The power of manifestation… I thought it was some kind of cheap magic trick. I've spent every day searching for those worthy enough to claim as enemies… To be given an opportunity to fight someone new… I am thankful for this power.

The varied phenomena will continue to circulate and eventually convene at one point. Those who wield the power of manifestation may in fact be wandering elsewhere now, but some day our destinies will intertwine. To be stagnant in such a place would be a poor plan. It seems as though it's time…

Amnesia, although our ties were short, I did have my fun…

Enkidu: The next time we meet, it shall be as enemies. I cannot wait to fight to the death with you all…

UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II SYS:CELES[]

Prologue[]

Waldstein: There you are, Enkidu the Sin-Slayer. There's something I need to tell you now that the end's upon us… I've got to thank you for helping Kuon, albeit for a short time.

Enkidu: What's wrong? It feels like that's only the preface to what you've really got to tell me. There's no need to beat around the bush. Just cut to the chase.

Waldstein: Heh… You see right through me. I've yet to defeat you in a serious battle, so I've come for a rematch. Don't tell me you've forgotten our promise…

Enkidu: Sure… If both of us make it back alive… then I'll gladly accept the task of ending the life of a great man like you.

Waldstein: Heh… That's what I like to hear. I knew I could count on you for satisfaction. Now, Maneater, what's your move for tonight?

Enkidu: Let me see… Personally, I bear that man no ill will, but I cannot let him end the world with his Immortalize. If he really intends to open the door of the Night, I will stop him with these very fists.

Waldstein: Keh heh heh… Seems we're on a similar path. That's a relief. Though after he's been tied down for ages, I do want to at least grant him his final wish.

Enkidu: I'm glad to hear you don't sympathize with him to the point of wishing for the world to end as he does. I was prepared to settle that score with you right here.

Waldstein: Oh? You're saying that if I were on Kuon's side, I would've had the chance to end it with you already? Now, that's too bad… Keh heh heh.

Enkidu: …I shall be going now. If you have any regrets, try not to carry any of them with you to the end of this final Night, Hekatoncheir…

(Enkidu leaves)

Waldstein: Don't die on me, warrior of the present. If anything happens to me… I leave Kuon in your hands.

Stage 3[]

Carmine: Hey, you! Funny-lookin' geezer over there! Hold up!

Enkidu: I will only stop if you are worth stopping for. If that were so, I would be the one asking you to stop.

Carmine: What the hell? What's with that smile on your face? Pretty sick stuff, man…

Judging by the gruffy face and the superhuman bod… I'm guessing you're not some cheap-ass hoodlum. You've gotta be a bona fide fighter.

Enkidu: I'd hesitate to bestow that title on myself. But if that is how you see me, I can accept it.

Carmine: That's a real humble response--and humility makes me sick to my stomach! Lighten up, already, or you're gonna make me barf!

Nah, you know what? I like you. You're a textbook straight-edge kinda guy, huh? The real deal. That makes kicking your ass all the sweeter. You better cry nice and loud for me, got it?

Enkidu: Well, your foul language is that of a textbook ruffian--and you've got the puffed-up confidence to match. You seem like a good target for a take-down. I hope you don't disappoint me.

Carmine: Wow, nice clapback! You got some sizzle with that steak, huh? Pretty well-aged steak, too.

Oh, I'm gonna have FUN with this one! Haa ha ha ha ha ha haa!

I'm gonna beat your ass so bad, you'll never see the sun again! Hope you're ready…

Enkidu: There are those whose strength is… unconventional. The righteous path is not the only road to strength. Facing various kinds of opponents shall open my eyes to the truth…

Stage 6[]

Enkidu: I've sensed an ominous presence for a while now… I don't know who it is, but their hostile nature is clear as day.

I know you're hiding somewhere nearby. Come out and reveal yourself, ominous presence…

(Accepting his verbal invitation, a rather unusual Void appears before Enkidu)

???: Keh heh heh… Does my voice reach you, then, bearer of the odd EXS?

Enkidu: (…! His consciousness is… flowing directly into my mind… He moves quickly and sharply, like an ape… He's already within range. I doubt I'm dealing with a mere human…)

I see… You must be the "Talking Void" I've heard about. If so, then I am grateful to meet you. You'll be my greatest harvest of the Night. Perhaps even the reason I came into the Night in the first place.

Merkava: You smile, as if your encounter with me is some great prize… How absurd. You make me laugh, ridiculous one.

Your body and soul are as clear and unclouded as running water. Of course… Your EXS is so minuscule that it barely exists. Just what are you? You intrigue me…

Enkidu: I didn't expect to have my nature called into question by one as mysterious as yourself. It seems I'm more peculiar than I thought…

Void, if you wish to know who I truly am, why not use your fists? …Or in your case, your fangs.

Merkava: Interesting… A chance to sample one without EXS! Let's see if you taste differently from the others…

Enkidu: Bring it on, then. But I will warn you not to underestimate me as a typical human. We're about to engage in an extraordinary battle for our lives.

Excellent… This is just the fight I've been looking for!

Final Stage[]

Kuon: So you've arrived to bring about the end. Personally, I can't say this is my ideal situation…

Enkidu: I don't need flattery from one such as you. I've come to deliver your prize to commemorate this final Night.

Kuon: Don't give me that scary look… You knew this would happen when you cooperated with me, no matter for how short a time. As a sign of my gratitude for your help, I'll grant you whatever you wish.

Enkidu: Hmm. I do appreciate that. There's only one thing I wish for. You've honed your skill through countless years of experience. Now, with your EXS, show me the epitome of combat!

Kuon: As you wish… But your body is only that of an ordinary human, not a Wielder. I'm afraid we wouldn't have a fair fight.

Enkidu: There's no need to worry about that. I've defeated many who have uttered those exact words.

I don't intend to belittle what you hope to achieve, but however tainted this world may be, it is too early to lay it to waste. I have yet to see with my own eyes even a fragment of the answer…

Kuon: You and I are the same. We both lash out to obtain the unobtainable. I'll relive you from that curse. If anyone is to be consumed by this madness, it should be me and me alone.

My blade has almost… reached its mark… So please. Leave me undisturbed for just a bit longer.

Enkidu: Unfortunately, I cannot do that. I'll disturb you to the best of my ability.

O, demon that dwells within me and suffocates my soul! I will show you that I am the strongest of all--by defeating this pinnacle of EXS right here and now!

Epilogue[]

Enkidu: The wall is thick with endless EXS… The regenerative abilities of his body are astonishing… I must reach the core of his Vessel with my weak powers somehow, or the pit won't close…

As a last resort, I could unshackle myself and pierce right through. The shackles suppress the demon within me… but with the fate of the world on the line, I no longer have the option of keeping it restrained.

If I let the demon roam free, the Vessel that contains my consciousness will surely be swallowed whole. Master, you knew this would happen… So you sent me on my journey to find the true strength of the mind.

Please forgive me… I am about to disobey you, but I do it for the whole world's sake. If the demon consumes my body… then I will defeat it from the inside. I swear it.

Here it comes… The ultimate strike of my lifetime… Let my shackles break! My chains, shatter! May my fist pierce through! My soul, burst into flames!

Mmmrrrnnngh! Guoooaaaaaaagh! Soul of Aeon, you shall perish now!!

(The screen turns white)

--

My fist must have connected true.

Heh… "My fist." As if these fists were still my own. I vowed never to use my power… The power of the fists I deemed evil. And yet I've broken that vow for a single strike…

I am still immature… No. The immature have an excuse. I shall never be so arrogant as to consider this body a true martial artist's body again.

Grgh…! The EXS erosion has begun… I feel darkness erupting… and consuming… my consciousness…

I cannot stay here… I hope I have enough power… Enough will… to at least move somewhere… quiet…

Farewell, human world…

-----[]

Not long after one extraordinary martial artist managed to fight back the Voids and the Night itself, a strange rumor began to spread…

A rumor of a demon roaming the mountains near the city.

Many who boasted of their great strength went to the mountains in hopes of finding the demon.

Not a single one of them returned home. Before long, none would dare go near the mountains.

Ed017enk
